Bearings is a personal health journal designed for individuals managing Mixed Connective Tissue Disease (MCTD) and related conditions. It is a private tool — not a social platform, not a data business.
All data is stored in a SQLite database on the server hosting this application. It is not transmitted to, copied to, or shared with any third-party service, cloud platform, or data broker. Your health data belongs to you and stays on this server.
When you save an entry, the text you enter in certain fields (food, flare symptoms, activity, stress) may be sent to Anthropic's API for structured analysis. This text is processed transiently to extract patterns and is governed by Anthropic's privacy policy. No data is stored by Anthropic beyond the processing of your request. AI analysis can be disabled by removing the API key from the server configuration.
Only you. Each user account's data is completely isolated — no user can access another user's journal entries, settings, or history. Server administrators with direct database access could theoretically read entries, but your email address remains protected by the one-way hash.
Your data is retained for as long as your account exists. You can delete all your journal data at any time from the Settings page. To fully delete your account, contact the server administrator.
Bearings uses a single first-party cookie (vc_remember) to keep you logged in. No advertising cookies, tracking pixels, or analytics scripts are used.
Bearings is intended for adults managing chronic health conditions. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under the age of 13.
If this policy changes materially, the effective date above will be updated. Continued use of the app after a policy update constitutes acceptance.
Questions about this privacy policy should be directed to the administrator of the server on which this application is hosted.
